Probate Services in Bristol
Losing someone is hard enough. We handle the paperwork, the deadlines and HMRC so your family can focus on each other — not on forms.
What probate actually involves
Probate is the legal process of dealing with someone's estate after they die — gathering their assets, paying debts and inheritance tax, and distributing what's left to the people named in their will (or under the rules of intestacy if there isn't one).
For most estates that means applying for a grant of probate, completing an IHT400 or IHT205 for HMRC, closing bank accounts, transferring or selling property, and producing estate accounts. It typically takes 6–12 months end to end.
Two ways we can help
Most Bristol families pick one of two routes depending on how much they want to handle themselves.
- Grant of Probate Application — fixed fee from £595. We prepare and submit the grant application and IHT forms; you handle the rest.
- Complete Probate Service — fixed fee from £2,000. We deal with everything: HMRC, asset collection, property sale, beneficiary distribution and final estate accounts.
Fixed fees, no nasty surprises
Unlike solicitors who often charge a percentage of the estate (typically 1–5%), our probate fees are fixed and quoted upfront. On a £500,000 estate that can be the difference between £2,000 and £15,000+.
We are based in Henleaze (BS9) and act for families across Bristol, Bath and the wider South West. Home visits available where helpful.
